Elez-Boulaine : Homage to Pierre Boulez in Portrait Of The Artist In The Age Of AI

ERC COSMOS is pleased to partner with ERC REACH in a demonstration-performance to set the stage for a panel discussion and a performance on AI’s impact on art creation, at the Night of Ideas at the Institut Français du Royaume-Uni (17 Queensberry Place London SW7 2DT)on 6 February at 19h20-20h10 in Les Salons. The event is free and open to the public with registration.

Since its 2016 inception in Paris, the Night of Ideas (La Nuit des Idées) gathers French and international thinkers to discuss major issues of our time each year around the globe. HE Hélène Duchêne, French Ambassador to the UK, will launch the Night of Ideas 2025 at 18h.

In the performance, Elaine Chew plays the Institut’s 1907 Pleyel grand piano in a musical duel with somax2 which will be steered by Gérard Assayag whilst their heartbeats and breathing are visualised by heartfm in a semi-improvised performance of music by Pierre Boulez (Elez-Boulaine) with a dash of music by Maurice Ravel in celebration of Boulez’s centenary.

Another delightful collaboration with Gérard Assayag (ERC REACH) on Elez-Boulaine with Gérard guiding somax2 and with heartfm visualisations of performer ECG, breathing, and heart rate variability. Somax2 corpuses from Boulez, Jean-Brice Godet, Valérie Philippin, Francesco Guerri, Alice Teyssier in response to Elaine’s playing. Elaine samples from Boulez’s Fragment d’une ébauche and Ravel’s Jeux d’eau in response to somax2.

Thanks to Florence Ferran and Patrick Nédellec for the invitation, and Jerome Chevrier, Loic Lefrileux, Rudolf and many more for the support.
